heating up & cooling off

I don’t know about you, but emotions have been hot this summer. Anyone else see inside out 2, and felt deeply connected to some of the characters? All I’m saying is that emotions have a funny way of getting our attention. Sometimes we are ready for them, and sometimes it’s just a giant curveball coming straight for us.

Tonight we begin a new lunar month, Tammuz, beautifully timed with Havdalah and the start to yet another summer week. With Tammuz brings an intensity unlike other months. Tammuz is all about feeling the heat of the summer, and maybe the heat of all the emotions we are, or maybe haven’t yet, given ourselves the time and space to feel. This might be the month they come out and surprise you, but even so, remember that all emotions are valid, and a true part of what makes up you!

As we enter into this new week, and this new month, I invite you to consider some ways that you can “cool off” when the heat really gets to you. Maybe that means taking a dip in the pool or the ocean (sounds delightful!!) but that could also mean creating space to be with yourself, space to breath it out, and space to sit still. I find myself working really hard to sit still, but when I do, the thoughts and feelings really do start to cool off, and I’m greeted with clarity and grounded-ness once again.

So with that, my wish for your Tammuz is the ability to discover your version of stillness and cooling off in the heat of emotions that make come your way.

Shavua Tov and Rosh Chodesh Tov!
