TGIF + Fixed Practices
thank god it's friday & we have fixed practices
Hi friends, happy Friday :)
Third time’s the charm! Thank you for subscribing and taking the time to read this letter. I’m grateful for you! Not sure if anyone can relate, but it has been one of those weeks that feels incredibly long, but also zoomed by. Not to mention it’s already the end of July! This summer is flying…I hope it’s been full of joyful moments with good people.
I got back from traveling at the beginning of this week, and I found it really challenging to transition back into a routine. I feel like summer makes that even harder. I was definitely beyond the point of tiredness, and kept pushing past it. I think we’ve all probably been there before. I had to check in with myself several times this week to remind myself what I needed. I feel like I’m finally starting to find balance again…it only took an entire week. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
For me, my self-care comes down to my top three most important things: sleeping, nourishment, and movement. When I’m beyond tired, the other two, nourishment and movement, feel even harder. It’s a constant dance to prioritize these three things that I know help me to show up as my best self. What do any of these have to do with Torah though??? Well, obviously I have an answer for you:
Shammai said, “Make Your Torah Study a Fixed Practice.” - Pirkei Avot 1:16
My questions for you are:
What is your version of Torah Study?
If you could replace it with something other than Torah Study, would you, and why?
My top three self-care lists can definitely qualify as my fixed practices. When I do them daily, I show up better. I feel better. I think better. What do you need to show up as the best version of you? If you don’t have a word to fill that blank with, what would you like it to be? This Shabbat, another fixed practice, fill in your blank, and create your version of Torah study.
Wishing y’all the most special Shabbat full of meaningful fixed practices.
Ethically,
Emily
